photoshop brush question

Wed Nov 25, 2009, 9:16 PM
just curious... is there a way to view the brushes in an .abr file? and to convert them to a .png file?

a little background: so i found these really cool brushes online and want to try using them... however they seem to be made in photoshop cs or some version of photoshop that's newer than 7.0. i have heard of the software "abr viewer" which i tried.... and it only half works. what i mean by that is... when i tried a set of brushes i could open in photoshop 7.0, it worked beautifully: a thumbnail appeared for each brush and was able to convert it to a .png file. however when i tried the .abr file i couldn't open in photoshop, it did not open properly (6 thumbnails appeared instead of 18 and the 6 that did show up were somewhat smudged and didn't look right).... so i'm assuming that abr viewer is great IF the .abr file was created in photoshop 7 (or below), but not usable for any .abr file created in photoshops newer than 7.0..... =/

so are they any suggestions on how to go around this problem or am i doomed to be unable to use those brushes unless i buy a newer version of photoshop? :-P

hope everyone has a great thanksgiving =)
